Brotherhoods carry ornate floats of Christ and the Virgin through the streets day and night, accompanied by penitents in pointed hoods and brass bands.

What happens

About 60 brotherhoods process to the cathedral during the week. The floats (pasos) are carried by teams of costaleros hidden underneath. The high point is the Madrugá, the night between Thursday and Friday. Málaga, Granada, Córdoba, Zamora, Valladolid and Cartagena have their own very different Holy Weeks.

Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.

Dates for 2027 are based on the fixed date or the usual rule. Confirm with the organisers or town hall before booking.

Tips

  • Seats along the official route are sold by the council; most people watch for free in side streets.
  • Thursday and Good Friday are public holidays in most of Spain, so travel is busy.
